Calla High School has a new club. Beginning March 1, students can join the Game Club, play video games, participate in friendly tournaments, and enjoy snacks with their friends. The Game Club will begin at 2:15 and meet in Room 13 for two hours every Friday.
The video gaming club will be a place for students and staff at Calla to share their interests in video games. Members come together to engage in various activities related to playing video games. Calla’s gaming club will be a space to connect, share their enthusiasm, and bond over their favorite games. In addition, it will be a great place to discuss strategies, game mechanics, and experiences.
“We wanted to provide a place for all people who love games and hanging out,” said club advisor and teacher Shane Armstrong. “We’ll have open play, tournaments, prizes, and snacks to help increase participation and membership.”
Games offered to the members include Tekken 4, Smash Bros., and Madden 24. Students can play using PS2, PS4, and the Nintendo 64 systems.
As a bonus, the Gaming Club will help members practice digital citizenship skills, mentorship, and skill development and have a positive impact on academics. A gaming club will help students promote teamwork, perseverance, communication, and empathy, critical tenets of social-emotional learning. It’s a win-win for Calla students and education.
Whether you’re a fan of multiplayer online battle arenas, role-playing games, first-person quests, or classic arcade games, a gaming club will cater to all genres and platforms, providing a sense of community and skill development.
Calla invites all students to come and join the fun every Friday. See Mr. Armstrong for more details.
