This week’s teacher spotlight is on Shane Armstrong. Mr. Armstrong is a well-known and respected teacher amongst the students and staff at Calla High School, and it is an honor to highlight him in this feature story.
Mr. Armstrong graduated from the University of Pacific in 2019. This year marks his third at Calla, where he serves as an English and physical education teacher and the Lobos leadership and yearbook adviser. He also dedicates his time to Calla, serving as the school’s flag football and softball coach. Students and staff notice the dedication and can spot Mr. Armstrong just about everywhere on campus.
“I think Mr. Armstrong is an amazing teacher,” senior Justin Moglie said. “He’s a great coach and mentor. Although I don’t have him for any classes this year, he still goes out of his way to make sure I’m doing well or offering his support.”
Before coming to Calla, Armstrong served in the armed forces. After serving in Afghanistan and earning a Purple Heart for heroism and bravery, he is a veteran and war hero. This dedication to serving others makes his presence on the Calla campus unique for those who come into contact with him.
“I love teaching at Calla,” Armstrong said. “I love that I can share common interests with the students. The people I work with are amazing and make my job delightful. Every day is exciting.”
Mr. Armstrong likes spending time with his three children, fixing up old cars, and watching sports (he is a big Cleveland Browns fan) outside his time at Calla High School. He is also a big fan of string cheese and chilaquiles. His sense of humor and zest for life are critical characteristics of his personality.
“Mr. Armstrong is an amazing asset to the Calla Campus,” said Calla principal Ms. Bryson. “He constantly puts in extra time and effort to make Calla the best school. The best thing is he makes learning fun, and the students always enjoy talking and working with him.”
Mr. Armstrong’s hard work and commitment make Calla High School an exciting place to learn and work. The Lobo Life would like to thank Mr. Armstrong for allowing us to speak and feature him in our teacher spotlight.
